Pancerne skrzydła / Armoured Wings

Biało-czerwone flagi, transparenty „Leve de Bevrijders!” (Niech żyją wyzwoliciele!), „Niech żyje Polska!”, deszcz kwiatów – tak mieszkańcy flamandzkich miast witali 1 Dywizję Pancerną pod dowództwem gen. Maczka. Mimo upływu lat żyje wdzięczna pamięć o polskich żołnierzach, a jej wyrazem jest międzynarodowa wystawa „Pancerne skrzydła„, ukazująca wyzwolenie Flandrii przez żołnierzy 1 Dywizji Pancernej we wrześniu 1944 r. Teksty w trzech wersjach językowych (polskiej, angielskiej i niderlandzkiej) są bogato ilustrowane archiwalnymi fotografiami i filmami – większość z nich nie była dotąd prezentowana szerokiej publiczności. Towarzyszą im unikatowe eksponaty, takie jak sztandar 1 DP i pamiętniki żołnierzy.

Wystawa została zorganizowana z inicjatywy Dirka Verbeke, honorowego sekretarza miasta Tielt. Jest to wspólne przedsięwzięcie Przedstawicielstwa Rządu Flandrii w Polsce, Instytutu Pamięci Narodowej, Muzeum II Wojny Światowej przy współpracy Stowarzyszenia Pierwszej Polskiej Dywizji Pancernej, Muzeum Wojska Polskiego oraz Narodowego Instytutu Polskiego Dziedzictwa Kulturowego za Granicą; eksponatów użyczyło też wielu prywatnych kolekcjonerów.

White-and-red flags, banners with slogans “Leve de Bevrijders!” (Long live the liberators!), “Long live Poland”, flowers – in this way the Flemish community welcomed the Polish 1st Armoured Division commanded by gen. Maczek. This grateful remembrance is still alive after so many years – as shown by the international exhibition „Armoured Wings” presenting the liberation of Flanders by the 1st Armoured Division in September 1944. Trilingual texts (Polish, English and Dutch version) are illustrated with a lot of photos andfilms that have never been published before. Panels are accompanied by unique exhibits including standards, soldiers’ diaries and soldiers’ diaries. 

The exhibition, another example of Polish-Belgian friendship, is organized on the initiative of Dirk Verbeke, the honorary secretary of Tielt. It is a collective venture of the General Representation of the Government of Flanders in Poland, Institute of National Remembrance, and Museum of the Second World War in cooperation with Polish Army Museum, Association First Polish Armoured Division Belgium and The National Institute of Polish Cultural Heritage Abroad. Many exhibits come from private collectors
